This policy explains what data the SpeedTech STuner app uses, what for and how we protect it. STuner is used to monitor and tune SpeedTech ECUs over Bluetooth or USB.
Permissions the app requests
- Bluetooth: to find your ECU and connect to it. It is not used to know where you are.
- Precise location, only while you use the app (never in the background): on Android 6 to 11 the system requires it to scan for Bluetooth devices; while tuning, the app reads the GPS speed so you can't change the map with the car moving if the ECU has no speed sensor (that reading isn't stored); and the GPS meter uses it to measure the distance and times of your runs.
- GPS meter runs store times, distance, speed and RPM, never coordinates. Your location never leaves your phone.
- Vibration: for the shift light. You can turn it off.
- Internet: to sign in with your SpeedTech account and download configuration files and base maps.
The app doesn't request camera, microphone, contacts, notifications or background location.
What is stored on your phone
- Your account: email and display name, plus the SpeedTech session or signed permit, encrypted with the Android keystore. Never your password.
- A random installation identifier. It doesn't identify you or your phone.
- Your vehicles, maps, backups, datalogs, GPS meter runs, dashboard settings and alerts, and an app error log for diagnostics.
If Android backup is turned on, Google may copy these files to your Google account according to your phone's settings. Encrypted keys are not copied.
What is sent to SpeedTech
- When you sign in: your email and password, over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). The password isn't stored on the phone.
- To validate your ST Premium: the installation ID, the app name and version, the Android version and the phone model. We use them to issue the app permit, apply the per-account phone limit and let you recognize your phones in My account.
- Whatever you choose to share through Android's share sheet (for example, by WhatsApp or email): logs, backups, the image of a run or a support report with the map, the latest log, the vehicle data and the app errors. The app doesn't upload anything on its own.
What we don't do
STuner has no ads, uses no third-party analytics or tracking services, and we don't sell your data. The ECU talks directly to your phone over Bluetooth or USB.
Deleting your data
You can delete your SpeedTech account anytime on the website, under My account, with «Delete my account». Any automatic charge is canceled and your account, courses and progress are deleted; payments are kept only as accounting records. Data stored on the phone is deleted when you uninstall the app.
