TEC MotorSports
The Formula SAE team of the Costa Rica Institute of Technology
On the road to Formula SAE Michigan 2027

The team
TEC MotorSports (TMS) is a student research group at the Costa Rica Institute of Technology focused on automotive engineering. Its members design, build and tune a single-seater to compete in Formula SAE.
Every part comes from the team’s own work: 3D design, manufacturing in the workshop and wiring. In 2027 they debut at Formula SAE Michigan, their first international competition.

What is Formula SAE?
It is one of the largest university automotive engineering competitions in the world: each team designs, builds and presents a formula-style single-seater.
The car is judged on track (acceleration, skidpad, autocross and endurance) and so is the engineering work behind it: design, cost and the project presentation.

The car
- Engine
- A 500 cc motorcycle-derived twin: reliable, with the power needed to compete.
- Chassis
- A tubular frame designed in 3D and built entirely by the team, with seamless tubes for extra strength and driver protection.
- Wiring harness
- Built by the team’s electrical control division.
